University of Burundi launches a PhD programme

Africa has always been in my bucket list.  There is something about the continent that constantly and continuously draws me to her.  I've had workmates who come from various parts of what is known as the dark continent: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Congo, Namibia, Nigeria, Eritrea, and Kenya.  I'm particularly eager to visit and experience Madagascar, Egypt, Ethiopia, Sahara Desert, Congo, and the Victoria Falls where they say the Nile River starts.

And now, I'm adding Burundi to the list because of this development of them having their 1st doctoral programme for candidates who already hold a Master's degree. It is a state university and also recognized by UNESCO.  Prior to this, students had to go overseas if they wanted to pursue their doctoral studies. Only two domains will be offered at the moment: Sciences, and Human and Social Sciences.  This is a good and welcome development for the nearly 11-million Burundians, who live in one of the world's poorest nations, struggling to emerge from a 12-year, ethnic-based civil war.  I wish you all the best in your journey for a PhD.
